Not another hairpin turn ? More stunning mountain views, really ? Smooth roads ? Boring!
If you've found yourself yearning for the cabbage fields, distance-blurred horizons and crumbling roads of the fens, then todays trip was the tonic you needed, featuring another slog up the A17 to get somewhere, anywhere, else. And O frabjous day! today that somewhere was glorious Lincolnshire. Oh Lincolnshire, the True North, where the roads are smooth and twist and turn like a twisty-turny thing. And the elevation! The elevation, it changes! The glorious Indian summer morning and rollercoaster route (once off the A17!) were witnessed by six lucky riders (and one passenger!), heading cross-country from Swineshead to the coast at Anderby Creek. We were somewhere around Langrick on the edge of the Wolds when the group bifurcated. 'Why?' you may ask; Have you been to Langrick? There is little else to do around there and, well, the opportunity presented itself. After waiting around for a bit, our half-group continued on, the need for tea and bacon rolls strong within us. The roads wiggled, the sun shone, the wind blew and we eventually arrived at the beachside resort of Anderby Creek where we availed ourselves of the Beach Cafe's wares. Tea finished, I had to leave promptly as I was headed further north; leaving Anderby Creek I waved happily at our group’s incoming other half. Where had they been? What adventure had befallen them to delay them so? What is the sound of one hand clapping? These things we are destined never to know.
Dave.
